Where do you get your oxygen from when you go home to your family? A thoughtful teacher early on in my counseling psychology training asked the class this question. I never forgot it. As a kid, I got my oxygen growing up by the beach within walking (or riding my bike) distance to the ocean in Carlsbad, California. I love walking on the sand breathing in the cool ocean air. I enjoy reading, writing poetry, and journaling. I also like to travel. A memorable trip of mine was when I led an amazing group of high school teenagers on a service-learning trip to New Orleans, Louisiana to help rebuild a home for a family who lost theirs due to Hurricane Katrina.
